When buying natural stone
December 18 2021 – Lani Wilkisnon
When buying natural stone, you want to ensure that you are getting a high-quality product, for the money you are spending.
Unfortunately, a lot of natural stone suppliers are now selling much thinner stone – even down to 16mm thickness – instead of 30mm (+/-5mm) – due to increasing import costs. Suppliers are importing larger quantities of thinner stone, instead of better quality, thicker stone, and as a customer, this is something to be wary of.
Thinner stone causes a number of problems, as it is very brittle, and cannot be sufficiently hammered into the mortar, as it will break. This means your stone may end up broken, or it may come loose and move around if it is not securely in place.
At Valleys Group, we pride ourselves on only buying high-quality natural stone at a suitable thickness to sell to our customers, regardless of the import costs. We can also provide expert advice and guidance when you are purchasing your natural stone, as we are keen for you to get the best results possible for your project. We want all our customers to have a positive experience, not just when buying their stone, but for years to come.
